These Are the Best States To Retire in 2025, New Report Finds
In 2025, as the cost of living rises in cities across the country, more seniors are looking for places to live that check important boxes such as healthcare facilities and weather. An annual report from WalletHub outlines the best and worst states to retire using 46 different indicators of retirement-friendliness, from tax rates and cost of living to access to quality medical care and fun activities. The new report should help provide some guidance for those wondering where they should plant their new roots.
Unsurprisingly, the retiree paradise of Florida topped the list this year, outflanking the other states with low taxes for retired people, including no estate, inheritance, or income taxes. The Sunshine State also receives the third-most funding per senior from the Older Americans Act in the country, funding important parts of life like transportation, in-home care, and nutrition programs for seniors.
Florida is also the only state among the top 10 known for its warm weather. Minnesota, Colorado, and Wyoming follow in the rankings, with both North and South Dakota also managing to crack the top 10. If you're looking to stay in the Northeast, check out Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, or Delaware.
